Communal Coffee Reviews and Opinions
I visited Communal Coffee and had a mixed experience. The latte flight I ordered was okay, with good flavor options, but I found the name misleading as it only included 2 lattes, not the 3+ I’d expect in a flight. The sausage breakfast sandwich was alright, but too sweet for my taste.
On the positive side, the staff member who took our order was extremely friendly and a joy to talk to. However, the lack of seating at 9 am on a Saturday morning made it a poor choice for studying or working. The place was overcrowded, with little room to spare and finding parking in the surrounding residential area was a hassle.
On a brighter note, I loved the diverse drink options and seasonal specials, as well as the availability of vegan food items and attractive merchandise. The plant-based frittata sandwich was delicious, and I returned specifically for it. My soy latte was enjoyable, but my husband’s mocha, made with Valrhona chocolate, was exceptional. The ube matcha drink was also outstanding.
They do offer street parking, which is convenient, but I was disappointed by the extra charge for oat or almond milk, at an unreasonable $1.
The aesthetic appeal and ample seating at Communal Coffee made it a pleasant place to spend time, and I appreciated the charming boutique area with unique items like books and clothing. However, the seating filled up quickly, making it difficult to find a spot due to the number of people working there.
In summary, despite some drawbacks, Communal Coffee is a beautiful spot with great drink and food choices. It’s worth returning to for its ambiance, special drinks, and vegan options. Overall, my experience at Communal Coffee was positive, and it remains a top choice for enjoying matcha lattes and unwinding in the heart of San Diego.
