I visited Sextant Coffee Roasters in San Francisco. The coffee shop has an average rating of 4.4 out of 5. Upon arrival, I noticed a bit of disorganization and the menu wasn’t completely updated. It seems like early mornings might not be the best time to visit, as some items were shown as out of stock when they weren’t, and the pourover was missing.

I ordered a drip coffee, which was okay, but it lacked flavor and had a sharp acidity. However, the solid caffe latte I tried had just the right combination of espresso notes, milk, and crema. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the coffee beans are roasted on site, and the rich aromas added to the experience.

The service was average, but I appreciated learning that the barista was a highly satisfied regular patron before taking the job. This gave me confidence in the establishment. What sets Sextant apart is the secluded courtyard in the back, offering a peaceful escape in the heart of the busy, industrial SoMa district.

I also tried their special drink, the “Wired Gandhi,” which is a chai latte with an espresso shot. It was interestingly good, though a bit too sweet for my taste. However, the espresso shot did help balance out the sweetness. I found the factory vibe and relaxing atmosphere to be quite appealing and would love to return to try other coffee drinks.

The traditional way of serving coffee, without Starbucks sizes and types, added to the appeal. The blueberry muffin was exceptional, the best I’ve ever had.
